Transition to MicroSD card
In the CompactLogix 5390 controller, Rockwell Automation replaces the traditional SD card with a MicroSD card, helping reduce the controller’s overall footprint while providing greater flexibility for OEM equipment sourcing.
The MicroSD card is not included with the CompactLogix 5390 controller and must be ordered separately. The compatible 8 GB MicroSD card is available under catalog number 1784-MSD8.
Built-in SIL2 / PLd safety capability
- The CompactLogix 5390 is SIL 2 / PLd safety-capable out of the box, with the Safety Function enabled by default.
- Users can deploy the controller with its safety capabilities without requiring additional configuration to enable the function.
- If the Safety Function is not required for a particular application, users can disable it by unchecking the corresponding option in the Controller Properties tab.
Consolidated system for multiple applications:
- CompactLogix 5390 is a multi-discipline controller, allowing for Standard, Motion and Safety application without having to install a separate controller. OEMs can now change the settings between Standard, Motion or Safety.
- Both standard and safety codes are integrated in one controller to meet functional safety requirements in every application.
- Shock tests are ongoing to evaluate the controller’s suitability for motion applications, including AGV-mounted and automotive applications. The testing is targeting a benchmark of 25 g, 6 ms, 1,000 shocks across three axes, providing validation for applications subject to repeated mechanical shock.
