Challanges

The Intermalt Vietnam factory is the largest malt producer in Southeast Asia. The factory uses inverter-controlled electrical cabinets to operate load equipment such as pumps, fans, conveyors, and mixers. However, during the rainy season, the factory frequently experiences tripped main circuit breakers due to lightning strikes. This causes sudden power cuts to the equipment, leading to production disruptions and economic losses for the company.

Solutions

To solve this issue, after evaluating various options, Intermalt decided to collaborate with Servo Dynamics, a provider of SineTamer surge protection solutions. After conducting a site survey, Servo Dynamics’ engineering team proposed the Sinetamer – LA-ST603Y2-C1 & RM-ST403Y2-C1 surge protection solutions.

SineTamer’s solution uses technology to filter and eliminate high-voltage transients caused by external factors (lightning) and internal factors (generated by large switching devices). This helps protect electrical equipment within the cabinets from damage due to lightning surges.

Results

After implementing the SineTamer surge protection solution, the Intermalt factory reported positive outcomes, including:

• The frequency of main circuit breaker trips significantly reduced from 2-3 times per month to 1-2 times per year.
• The electrical system in the cabinets operates more stably, with no incidents of short circuits or equipment damage.
• Continuous operational time of the production system improved, enhancing productivity and efficiency.
• Significant savings on replacement costs for old surge protection devices.
