Answer

FactoryTalk View SE software server/client bundles were initially released in February 2017. New bundle options were released with FactoryTalk View SE 13 in April 2022. Add-on Clients can be purchased separately and used in conjunction with the bundles; this is also an option if there is a requirement for activation to be located on the Client computer. Current Server/Client bundle options and their contents are as follows:

Software Bundle Description
Large Bundle:
Unlimited Display Server with 25 Clients
FactoryTalk View SE Server unlimited with 25 clients and unlimited FactoryTalk ViewPoint web clients. Bundle also includes both RSLinx Classic for View and FactoryTalk Linx.

ThinManager + FactoryTalk View SE Bundle FactoryTalk View SE and ThinManager in one bundle, see IN39964 – ThinManager and FactoryTalk View SE Bundle Activation and Support for details.

Can the license for a software bundle be split up for use on different systems?

Each bundle purchased provides one Serial Number, which corresponds to one FactoryTalk Activation license that will activate everything included in the bundle.
This activation license cannot be split into multiple separate activation .CLI files and subsequently located on different machines. The bundle activation must be located on a centralized FactoryTalk Activation Server to which all View clients and the HMI Server have network access.

Can Technical Support or Customer Care split the bundle licenses up for my customer?

No. Software Serial Numbers only apply to the product or bundled product that was purchased. Other additional licenses, such as Client licenses are available for purchase as an individual item that can still be used in conjunction with the bundle license.

I have redundant HMI Servers, or more than one HMI Server in a single application. Can I use the bundled Clients with these Servers, or do they need to be part of one server/client system?

You can use the Client licenses within a redundant HMI server configuration, as long as the FactoryTalk Activation Server is located on a network where each Client can access it.

If I purchase two bundles, are the client licenses additive?

Yes, the client licenses should be additive between the two bundle licenses. For example, you could purchase two bundles to activate two separate, redundant HMI servers with a total of 10, 20 or 50 client activations between the two license packs.

FactoryTalk Activation server configuration.

The FactoryTalk Activation server manages and shares activations with other configured computers on the network. Multiple activation servers can exist on a network, and client computers can retrieve activations from more than one activation server.
The FactoryTalk Activation server does not require a server operating system. However, a server operating system will administer the licenses more effectively. Download times will be shorter and the system administrator can more easily use a single, central computer to host activations.
